After the successful tournament in Newcastle, the planning of the 4th Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament began a little later than in previous years. Since participants’ feedback was highly constructive and positive, we allowed ourselves to approach planning of the upcoming tournament with ease. The donation sum of the 2016 tournament was 1410 EUR and already many helping hands had been found for the 2017 tournament (drinks / goodies / support on tournament day). Many organisational improvements and innovations (sound system / digital representation of the tables, etc.) were continued and refined. Only the date of the tournament was moved from the beginning to the end of November (especially to let our English friends be able to experience the magic of the pre-Christmas season in our beautiful city). Behind the scenes, long-term ideas were also born: the founding of a club took concrete shape.
The uncomplicated and helpful management of the Soccerdome Hopsagasse enabled us to smoothly host the 4th Jürgen Wagner Charity Football Tournament on 25 November 2017.
15 teams divided into 3 groups played in the tournament and another special prize, which had to be incorporated after the tournament in Newcastle: the Toilette Trophy. It was played among the teams who had not qualified for the play-offs. After athletically and technically high-quality play-offs, the teams FC KAOS and Käsebauern won the final places. In a similarly high-quality and exciting final game for both sides, FC KAOS nevertheless prevailed with 5:0 and crowned themselves the winner of the 4th Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament.
At the other end of the spectrum, the teams Hatefull 8 and Bacudi Boys played a game that lived up to the title of the award ;-). After a very ambitious, exciting and above all fair and funny play-off phase and final match to win the Toilet Trophy, the Hatefull 8 team won the “golden pot” on penalties.
This time, the awards ceremony took place right after the tournament final and the celebrations were held, as usual, in the local U.S.W. pub.
