Since the first Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament was so successful, it seemed unlikely that the record sum of 2050 EUR could be repeated. Nevertheless, with the help of the 14 participating teams and numerous visitors, it was possible to achieve even a small increase in donations: 2250 EUR were generated and donated in the 2nd Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament.
Once again, the organizers of the tournament met early in the new year and found themselves facing a new challenge. As the proposed tournament among friends was quickly progressing towards a serious football event, the organisers needed to keep pace with this development. All the more ambitious and motivated, the planning of the 3rd Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament was initiated. The next steps included the acquisition/realisation of a sound system to simplify communication, digitalisation of the charts to better inform the teams and especially the use of professional referees in the play-off phase. Furthermore, it was decided to postpone the date of future tournaments by about a month as many participants of the tournament were still playing in regular league and the public holiday weekend around 1 November proved to be generally unsuitable for a football tournament.
On 29 October 2016, the kick-off for the 3rd Jürgen Wagner charity soccer tournament took place and 8 teams were eager for the title. After the group stage (2 groups) the play-offs took place, in which the final phase of the 1st Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament repeated itself in the semifinals. This time, the Bacudi Boys prevailed in a high-class and close game and won in the final against the Lucky Loosers with an outstanding 3: 1.
Once again, the team Athletico Universidad (Newcastle, England), must be noted as they participated for the third time. Engraved beer mugs bearing the logo of the 3rd Jürgen Wagner charity football tournament were ceremonially presented after an emotional speech.
The award ceremony and inauguration of the aforementioned beer mugs took place, as in the years before, in the local U. S. W. pub with self-organised buffet and dessert.
